During the night of yesterday, the inhabitants of Guerrero, Mexico City, Puebla, the State of Mexico and Morelia, among other states, were surprised by a telluric movement that, if reporting serious damage so far, unleashed fear and anguish among thousands of persons. The natural phenomenon left important havoc for various businesses, which were already visible at the time of the incident. The reports issued from social networks by the users themselves have shown the effects that brands such as Soriana, Oxxo or Chedraui suffered as a result of this mishap.
According to official sources of information, the earthquake was reported with an epicenter in Acapulco, Guerrero with an intensity of 7.1 degrees on the Richter scale.
The reports delivered so far indicate that the earthquake has affected various facilities, where the collapse of fences, falling posts and cracks in some buildings have been the most visible consequences of the natural phenomenon.
The truth is that in the midst of this challenge, various points of sale of brands such as Oxxo o Soriana were affected, with dozens of products lost due to the movement.
A little over twelve hours after the incident occurred, social networks have begun to circulate videos and images of the damage caused by this earthquake that surprised various entities of the Mexican Republic last night.
As expected, the greatest damage is reported in the epicenter, where although so far no human losses have been counted, if there are damage to different homes, streets and points of sale that have now seen their infrastructures and their goods.

These effects on points of sale of important brands such as Soriana and Oxxo come at a time when the retail sector is in a recovery stage, after having gone through a moment of paralysis, at least partial, due to prolonged closures in many establishments, reduced capacity and particularly low levels of mobility.
In this way, according to data from the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (Antad), in the sixth month of the year sales to equal units of supermarket chains, department stores and specialized stores grew 21.1 percent, compared to the same month of the previous year.
Thus, it is estimated that the income of the members of the ATAD advanced 23.1 percent, reaching a total of 598.3 billion pesos.
Although the progress is important, the truth is that it should not be forgotten that the measurement may be distorted, as a consequence of the arithmetic effect of measuring against a very low base of comparison in June 2020.
The effects that the earthquake now leaves could halt this advance if we consider that, although it is not a general problem, some points of sale could remain closed for a couple of days to resolve the consequences of the natural phenomenon, while inventory will have to be lose hundreds of units.
