Something good (and also bad) about Netflix, is that you enter the day you enter the platform there will always be something new waiting for you. I say good and bad because if you are someone with certain responsibilities in life it is quite unlikely that you will catch up with all the series and movies that premiere.
But there are certain premieres that are impossible to miss, and the new from Blanca Suárez is without a doubt one of them. Is named Jaguar, and beyond the fact that when we saw the series we had all the desire in the world to put on a raincoat (we love the one that looks in burgundy), It is one of those premieres that we know will triumph on Netflix.
Inspired in part by a true story, this series on Nazism is, in the words of the creators, an attempt to “rescue memory to do justice”. In this six-episode thriller we can see the work of a group of Nazi concentration camp survivors seeking justice. They do it looking for Nazi refugees in Spain after World War II as Al Pacino did in the United States with Hunters, the Amazon Prime Video series.
It also inevitably reminds us of Damn bastards because, although such and as the creators have affirmed to our fellow Sensacine wanted to get away from these references, it is inevitable to think of Tarantino when seeing the typeface that illustrates the chapters, very much in his style.
As a kind of elite group, half spies, half simple survivors eager for revenge, this group will work under the tutelage and funds of a mysterious character played by María de Medeiros. The main cast is headed by Blanca Suárez as Isabel Garrido, a woman who lost everything in the Mauthausen concentration camp and that now seeks to make those who took it pay pay, along with her Iván Marcos (Fariña), Francesc Garrido (Smoking Room), Adrián Lastra (Velvet) and Óscar Casas (Instinct) complete this peculiar group that calls itself Jaguar and is willing to do anything to see justice done.
Created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira with David Orea, Salvador S. Molina and Moisés Gómez, this action thriller is set in the Spain of the 60s, a time when hundreds of Nazis sought refuge after World War II.
A high intensity series
It is more than clear that action thrillers are a genre that Netflix likes. The Money Heist, for instance, It is still one of the great successes of the platform (despite the fact that the last season does not live up to expectations).
This time mixes the most classic spy thriller with a historical fact with a high emotional component, too many guns (and too many shots without hitting the target) and a charismatic Blanca Suárez who does what she did so well in Cable girls: Mysterious and self-sufficient woman who has been forced by life to be strong.
An Oscar Casas above the average
Despite not being the protagonist, a role played by Blanca Suárez, Óscar Casas proves once again that he is the owner of a diamond raw. A natural talent for acting that he already showed us in his role in Instinct. On this occasion, he offers a character with nuances and shows that he is not bad at action.
It is not from Emmy, far from it, but as it happened to us with series like The innocent, the script twists and the comings and goings of the characters leave us wanting more and it is entertaining, so it becomes a series to watch this weekend.
