The pandemic has caused separation anxiety problems in many pets, according to data from the Royal Canine Society of Spain (RSCE). After getting used to spending most of the time together due to confinement and teleworking, there are many animals that fear separation. And the puppies that have grown up in this scenario are used to a bond that the return to normality makes it impossible for many to maintain.
First of all, clarify that hyperattachment and separation anxiety problems require time and effort. Pets face a total life change and I recommend having a professional educator to carry out a training program. It will be a large outlay of money, but it will be worth it. And it is that they are the only ones trained to address each case individually and treat the vices that each pet has developed. In my case, my dog had a terrible time and her stress manifested itself in barking and breaking things.
And as the adaptation in the change of routines is long, my solution has been to use the Amazon Echo Show speaker. This device is used for many more things than listening to music, training or looking at recipes and can help us a lot when it comes to monitoring our babies and making sure they are okay.
With it you can see and hear your pet at all times, communicate with it and even play calming music or white noise if you notice that sounds from outside each other frighten it. We will not be able to be with our life partners all day, but using the Echo Show is a way to be.
To do this, you first need to activate the home surveillance feature on the speaker. Say “go to settings” or swipe down from the top of the screen and select settings, then camera, then home surveillance.
Once you have this activated, you will be able to access the live video from your mobile phone. Tap the camera tile on the Smart Home dashboard and select the Echo Show you want to view live video from. (To access live video by voice, say “Show me” followed by the name of the Echo Show device.)
Once inside the video you can turn the speaker and microphone on and off, zoom in by double tapping, zoom out by pinching the screen, and move the camera by swiping left or right on the screen.
A message will appear on the speaker screen indicating that a family member is online. If you feel bad, when you finish using it you can cover the camera, the speaker has an integrated closure. Amazon also has an audio alert function available that alerts you that you are being watched and a video delay that allows you to move out of the speaker’s viewing area if you don’t want to appear on the broadcast. Live video from the camera is not recorded.
To play music, click “play” from the Alexa app. You can select a recently played song or choose to browse music. It will ask you to select your device or pair of speakers and you can control playback and volume by selecting the bar at the bottom of the screen.
The Alexa home monitoring feature it works no matter how far away you are. The only drawback is that it does not have a night camera, so if there is no natural light in your house, you will have to leave the lights on. Or get yourself a smart lighting system and ask Alexa to turn it on when needed.
To finish, press stop and, voila!
