- Hackers are stealing Amazon accounts and buying things with victims’ money
- The Panda Security portal describes the modus operandi of cybercriminals to steal user data
Hackers are now stealing Amazon accounts and leaving victims with large debts, a practice that is becoming more common in recent days.
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest problems that Internet users have to face is the theft of their personal data, which includes credit cards, memberships in certain sites, etc., being a very common practice that is rarely reported and When it is done, it is not possible to find the true person in charge.
And it is that, many times, it happens that the so-called hackers tend to be very meticulous when it comes to acting and may even leave no trace whatsoever, which is why it is practically impossible to find them.
A little of this is happening with Amazon users, since, recently, it has been made known that hackers are stealing subscriber accounts to buy all kinds of things and leave users in debt.
According to the Panda Security portal, through its PandaLabs laboratory, the way in which hackers or scammers steal users’ bank details has been detected, and it is beginning to be a big problem for both the platform and, obviously , for Internet users.
The modus operandi of hackers, according to Panda Security, is as follows:
The first warning sign is to receive an email from Amazon where you are notified of an alleged unauthorized purchase or invited to have a favorable treatment from the platform, and that is precisely where cybercriminals invite the user to create a new one. account in Amazon Business.
Then, you are offered a 25 percent discount on your first account, for which it is necessary that you confirm your details. In other words, this is the moment when hackers can steal your personal data without you, at that moment, being aware of it.
One of the keys to finding this type of scam is that, once you provide your data, you are notified that your discount code will arrive within 48 hours. As mentioned, it is a very well planned and sophisticated modality.
This 48-hour period is ideal for hackers to make all kinds of purchases with users’ accounts without them being able to do something about it, as they would be waiting for their supposed discount code to arrive.
A big problem for Amazon
Now, this is not the only way for hackers to steal Amazon accounts; Another way is by means of an email whose sender can be “yellowamazon”, “yellowmarket”, or “customer service”, in which users are notified about a false purchase.
Within this email, a link is included with which users are invited to verify their account, but said URL “redirects the user to a false website whose only function is to get the email and password of their account”, such as mentioned by the Panda Security portal.
Undoubtedly, the only thing that can be done when dealing with suspicious emails is simply not replying or, failing that, reporting them. Unfortunately, these types of practices are very common and, in general, have no consequences, because, thanks to the anonymity offered by the Internet, hackers can do their “work” without any problem.
