In fact, he said that during the current administration there has been a progressive increase in the amount received by the staff of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
Increase in the salary of doctors during AMLO’s six-year term
To be more specific, he added that in terms of perceptions, from 2018 to 2022 all health professionals in training, such as physicians and general practitioners, residents and specialists, has had an increase of 5.97 percent on average per year. While the scholarship for residents went from 13 thousand 10 pesos in 2018 to 14 thousand 399 for this 2022.
As part of the official figures, in 2018 an IMSS general practitioner received an average monthly payment of 19,445. Instead, for this 2022 the official amount is 23,746 pesos.
With regard to specialists, at the beginning of the administration the average salary was 25,036 pesos. While today it is 30,644 pesos according to the official tabulator.
The official also spoke about the conditions of doctors in training. Currently the sector has 84 thousand 684 people who are in their last year of training to obtain the degree. Of that figure, 68,500 are in social service and 16,184 are undergraduate interns.
Of this universe, 16,184 are from undergraduate internships in Medicine; 13,397 medical interns; 37,877 Nursing interns; six thousand 384 Stomatology interns and 10 thousand 842 interns from other areas of health care, such as Chemistry, Nutrition, Psychology and related personnel, in medical units of the Ministry of Health, Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste) and Health Institute for Well-being (Insabi).
Alcocer Varela stressed that, in order to respond to the concern about actions to improve the conditions of undergraduate interns and interns in social service, work has been done on five major areas.
Evaluation, which considers the result of the satisfaction survey of interns from the previous cycle, report of incidents or complaints in accordance with the Official Mexican Standard NOM-009-SSA3-2013; security decalogue that details the general measures for emergency situations and specific actions, which includes the fellows to guide their actions in situations that affect security; mailbox for complaints, chats and telephone service to deal with any situation of insecurity, harassment or bullying; agreements with community authorities for the security of the fellows; and immediate relocation in situations of harassment or insecurity.
