In 2021, TikTok became the most searched website on the internet, surpassing Amazon, Google, Facebook, among others.
Given this data, it is normal to understand that many people use these platforms to educate themselves, promote, denounce, parody and more.
For this reason, the inhabitants of Monterrey recently released a new and updated version of the song ‘Sálvame’, by RBD.
As is well known, Monterrey is experiencing a drought such as has not been seen in recent decades.
The second largest city in Mexico, where more than 5.3 million people live, has been suffering from a drought since the beginning of the year that is now classified as “extreme” and that has reached its peak this month. With temperatures exceeding 40 centigrade, its inhabitants have to manage to subsist on just six hours a day of pumping drinking water, a restriction never seen before and implemented by the authorities to ration what is left in their dams.
The reserves are practically dry, such as the Cerro Prieto or La Boca dam, with less than 5 percent, which is why its inhabitants recently released a parody of the song ‘Save me’ by RBD but Monterrey version, denouncing the lack of water.
As expected, the song starring Anahí did not take long to go viral and so far adds 1.5 million reproductions.
Puro Nuevo León, oliendo a León”, with this phrase begins the video in which the protests of the citizens for the lack of the vital liquid are shown.
The video is a montage of the members of RBD with a voiceover singing the parody.

The success of TikTok
Although many Chinese applications have not been successful outside their country, especially Tencent’s WeChat, TikTok managed to enter the foreign market through the acquisition of Musical.ly, in November 2017, for 10 billion dollars. This added 80 million users, mostly in the US, which it then imported onto its own platform.
From there, TikTok became the most popular application, as ite downloaded 693 million times in 2019 and 850 million in 2020. Although it only launched in 2017, TikTok was the seventh most downloaded app of the 2010s and seems to be a real competitor against Facebook’s dominance over social media in the West.
From this perspective, it is not surprising that the Chinese social network is the most popular, despite not being the one with the most users. This is confirmed by the platform cloudflarewhich indicates that in 2021, TikTok became the most searched website on the internet, above Amazon, Google, Facebook, among others.
Also, in our country TikToks with background music ‘Save me’, by RBD, they are among the most produced and seen by users.
In the 2000s there was “RBD”, a group that not only marked an entire generation, but also became an icon of music, to such an extent that their songs continue to be heard and many of today’s greatest singers have declared themselves their faithful followers.
In fact, a few days ago Bad Bunny surprised his followers by playing “Sálvame”, an iconic song by the group that became a trend.
In this case, it was also through TikTok that a musical parody of the theme circulated ‘Save me’, of RBD, but that is contextualized in the present water crisis that the State of the north of the country is going through.
“Save me from the drought” went viral thanks to its irreverent lyrics, which change the references to a love breakup for mentions of the influencer Mariana Rodríguez and her husband, the Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.
To conclude the parody, at the end of the video images are shown that demonstrate the problem of the crisis that has already plunged Monterrey into a shortage that has lasted for months.
At the moment, this type of comic creations serve to alleviate the discomfort caused by this hydraulic crisis and social networks have become an important tool to spread it.
