A young man of Asian nationality lost his right hand in a work accident due to the mishandling of a machine. Given this, the young man was “stunned” while his friend was the one who reacted by taking him to the doctor as long as he could get his hand back. Upon arrival at the general hospital, the doctors did not know which procedure to take and made the decision to graft the hand onto the right ankle as long as the limb could continue to receive blood.
This hasty decision would save the young man’s hand, who had to spend a few more months in the hospital in order to recover full mobility in his hand. “His injury to him was serious. In addition to his tears, his arm was flattened, ”they told the Rex Features agency. “We had to clean and treat his lesions before performing the reimplantation surgery.”
In other parts of the world, such as England, Dr. Cairian Healy of the Royal College of Surgeons tried to explain that while Wei’s procedure was rare, it is not inconceivable. “And the concept of saving a body part that has been amputated by grafting it to another place in the body, so that it has a blood supply, is well recognized.”
However, Healy pointed out that the ankle is a very difficult area to graft. “Usually surgeons choose armpits because the blood supply is better, the patient may not be strong enough for the operation,” as such a procedure can take an experienced surgeon an average of eight to 15 hours in order to save my hand.
The experts indicated that the most important thing in these cases is to keep the hand alive in any way, be it in the armpit or in the leg. This is due to the fact that the hand has many nerve connections which, if they spend a long time without blood, can die and would no longer allow reimplantation.
