The Court of Instruction number 2 of Cervera de Pisuerga (Palencia) has secrecy of summary proceedings extended for another month, for all parties except for the Public Prosecutor, in the case of the disappearance in Reinosa (Cantabria) of the two girls of Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia), which has been reopened almost 30 years later and is being investigated by the Palencia Civil Guard.
The Court of Cervera de Pisuerga, which reopened the case of the girls from Aguilar de Campoo, Virginia Guerrero and Manuela Torres, 14 and 13 years old disappeared in Reinosa (Cantabria) on April 23, 1992, has agreed to extend the case for another month, as reported to EFE by the criminologist Ramón Chippirrás of the B&CH office, as spokesman for the families.
By Order dated January 14, 2022, the judge, who has extended the secrecy of the case on three occasions, on October 16, November 15 and December 14, has decided to once again extend the secrecy of the proceedings for all parties, except for the Public Prosecutor, for a period of one month.
In this way, the teams of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Palencia, which are investigating the case as a result of a new line of investigation that emerged after the testimony of a woman who experienced a similar case when she was also a girl, will have to continue reporting her actions to the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation remains open and follows its usual course, and the summary secrecy is maintained for the rest of the parties involved in the case, the families and the Clara Campoamor association.
The representation of the families has thanked the effort being made by the investigative team of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Palencia to clarify the events that occurred in 1992 and “the signs of affection that both families continually receive”.
The two girls disappeared 30 years ago, when, on April 23, 1992, they went to spend the afternoon in Reinosa (Cantabria) without permission from their families and never returned home.
Since their disappearance, the only thing that is known about them is that they went from Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia) to Reinosa (Cantabria) by train, allThey were seen in a nightclub and, at nightfall, they decided to hitchhike to return home and got into a white Seat 127, according to the testimony of a neighbor of Aguilar de Campoo, who was the last person to see the minors.
The case has been reopened after the lawyer Carmen Balfagón, who collaborates with a television program that has a space for unsolved and missing crimes, asked for citizen collaboration in the program that was dedicated in February 2021 to the case of Manuela and Virginia .
As a result of that collaboration request a call was received from a woman who reported on the program having experienced a situation very similar to that of Manuela and Virginia, a year earlier than the young women from Aguilar de Campoo, when she was also hitchhiking with a friend.
In this case, the two young women were able to escape and one of them, a few years later, by chance, met again the person who had caught them in the car, managing to identify her, although she did not report it at the time.
It was when he saw the program broadcast in February 2021 that he decided to go to the Civil Guard barracks to report it, which has led to several lines of research that are currently being worked on.
