An Internet user who is dedicated to sharing videos with information about racism in different social spheres, spoke about how complicated it is for him make purchases in supermarkets as a black person in Mexico.
In the first video, he pointed out that on many occasions, it is difficult to make a simple purchase because any simple act causes a police officer to always be aware of him as a customer. “It becomes very uncomfortable because then you come to buy and you come to spend. but all the time you feel like you’re doing a crime that you’re not committing“commented the account holder.
Likewise, he recounted a recent experience in which a police officer insinuated that he wanted to steal something from an apartment, when he was only looking for a car to continue with his purchases. “Right now I approached, for example, wanting to grab a cart because I had a lot of things in my hand and the security guard began to make signs to me as if I wanted to escape from the store, when I had already bought quite a few previous products in another store. department”.

“That ideal vision of how you should see yourself or how the perfect client should be, that is the hegemonic image. It is the invasive and vertical image that establishes that you can only be a certain way to function. So of course anyone of any skin tone, although it affects more people with darker skin tones who attend shopping places are followed because they are instantly criminalized. The same goes for how you dress and how you behave.”
