Science always surprises us with things that would not have even crossed our minds. And it is that every time we talk about a subject that we thought we already fully mastered, things like the one we will see below come and make us rethink everything about life itself.
Water 2: Electric Boolagoo
What would you say if you found out that the water you know so far is not the only state in which water is found? You will surely think that it is ice that we are talking about or even the steam that forms when we heat it up a lot, but it is not. There is a type of water that is basically found in a strange limbo.
As it is read, recently it was discovered that the water itself has two liquid forms with important differences that can be found in its density and its structure.
This was discovered because the liquid-liquid critical point was found. That is, water was found that is at a temperature and pressure such that its state of matter is almost indistinguishable.
This water was discovered in a temperature range that goes approximately between -83ºC and -103ºC and that is under an atmospheric pressure that is basically 2 thousand times greater than the atmospheric pressure at sea level.
Interestingly, this study by researchers at Princeton University is based on an idea that originated about 30 years ago, but it was not until now that this was confirmed to be true.
It is thanks to this interesting discovery that much more can be known about water and the way in which this liquid is vital for human life and, in general, essential for life on planet Earth.
