Playstation 5, which went on sale at the end of 2020, has been in stores for almost two years now. While it’s still a hard-to-find console for many, who find stock is simply unavailable or has been hoarded by resellers, it looks like Sony may be gearing up for a change in PS5 hardware.
Some important changes in the price of the PS5 in many regions, and now it seems that the console itself is undergoing some alterations as well.
This news comes after having seen a lighter version of the Playstation 5 in Australia, where the new version with a disk drive now weighs 3.9 kilograms, while at launch it weighed 4.5. This new weight was that of the discless version of PS5, although that model of the console has also lost some weight, dropping from 3.9kg to 3.4.
This is the second time that the Playstation 5 it becomes lighter, since in 2021 Sony released other models that also weighed less than those at launch.
Although it seems like a minor change, it begs the question of why Sony would lighten the weight of the PS5. With the internet being as speculative as ever, some believe this is somehow related to the potential release of a PS5 Pro console.
However, others have pointed out that this is probably a hardware decision, either replacing parts or removing unnecessary ones. In 2021, the PS5 became lighter due to a change in the heat sink used.
