For years, it has been rumored that Rockstar Games planned to expand Grand Theft Auto Online with an expansion to Liberty City, although it has never come to fruition. And with Rockstar Games confirming the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, if there were ever plans for such a major expansion for the game, they have likely been cancelled.
Although it remains unlikely that Liberty City will be added to Grand Theft Auto Onlinehas been discovered easter egg related to her in the game. As YouTubers GamingBGK and MrFraucheur have discovered, Grand Theft Auto Online has a Liberty City easter egg hidden in the Opium Nights Hotel.
If Grand Theft Auto Online players head to the Opium Nights Hotel at night and look through its glass windows, they will be able to see Liberty City in the reflection instead of Los Santos. The strange thing is that this only applies to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game; East easter egg is nowhere to be found in the versions of GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
It’s possible that this easter egg also appeared in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Grand Theft Auto Online, but fans no longer have a way to verify this. Rockstar Games closed GTA Online for PS3 and Xbox 360 late last year in order to focus their efforts on supporting new versions of the popular online multiplayer game.
Some may interpret this as a sign that Rockstar Games is preparing the long-rumored Liberty City expansion for Grand Theft Auto Online, but since this is found in the older versions of the game and not the new ones, it seems highly unlikely.
As mentioned above, Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development, so at this point it would seem almost counterproductive to release an expansion of this magnitude.
