The Postal Palace is one of the most important buildings in the country and buildings with great history.
This is not the first time that a work with great history in Mexico City ends up being ruined. We have already seen similar incidents with the famous El Caballito sculpture.
Mexico City is today one of the benchmark entities, to talk about all kinds of industries such as tourism.
The tourist attractions of entities such as Mexico City, are places whose history draws the attention of both local and international visitors, which is why it caused great disappointment in networks, the application of supposed vinyl paint on the façade of the well-known quarry Postal Palace, recognized as one of the greatest architectural symbols of the country’s capital.
This building dates from the early twentieth century and since then it has become one of the greatest memories in the history of the Mexican capital until now, which was intervened with vinyl paint, putting its appearance in check.
Vinyl painting on the history of the country
Twitter account Balam RR denounced on January 6 the appearance of the façade of the well-known Palacio de Correos, architectural symbol of the Porfiriato and which serves as the headquarters of the country’s Post offices.
The unfortunate appearance of the facade shows two huge stripes that completely cover their fronts with paint in brown tones, giving an inappropriate appearance to the quarry, which is used in these buildings to show off its natural grain. Among the comments that have been made to the complaint in networks, some users suggest that it is a slip, which is a liquid material mainly used in ceramics to modify its aesthetics.
Then they only erase by painting with a similar tone. Another bad measure they do is to apply a light layer of mortar on the quarry with a brush and then apply paint, or it comes with the tone. Another is that they better flatten the entire facade with concrete and paint each time. All wrong.

The aggressive restoration technique is a regrettable process that has been implemented in this work and that recalls past incidents such as the occasion in which the famous statue of El Caballito was sought to be restored.
The process to which the sculpture was subjected damaged its metal and the event became international news, with a trend in networks and the media, which made the restoration process of the sculpture a topic of conversation that continues to be commented on today.
The restorations that go wrong and escalate in interest on social media have led to us observing incidents that have become relevant cases and most importantly, antecedents of the value there is in communicating these stories.
This has invariably marked great cases such as the one that occurred with the “Ecce Homo de Borja”, a mural painting that was executed by the Spanish painter Elías García Martínez, this in the Misericordia de Borja sanctuary, Zaragoza province, Spain.
The work at the time was intervened by Cecilia Giménez and the disaster it caused turned the painting into a tourist magnet due to the popularity it reached on social networks.
