For 15 consecutive years, Comex – a PPG brand – through the ColorLife TRENDS program has brought together 173 Mexican creatives representing various industries related to the use of color, who have forecast 60 palettes composed of 9 shades each through 15 threads. guiding, setting color trends annually. This has represented work and inspiration that consolidates this initiative as a benchmark in the sector and as a source of inspiration to decorate the environment.
According to a study carried out by the Spanish School of Art, it was found that color influences human beings, at the same time that they give meaning to the wide range of shades. In this way, the choice of a color is the result of a sociocultural process, so it can vary depending on the age, training, social environment and temperament of the individual.
For this 2023, the panel of creatives selected “Moly A5-10” as the color of the year, a very versatile neutral violet tone, as well as the Plasma, Glitch, Magma and Climax trends that were developed under the same guiding principle: “Fluidity ”. The process of creating the trends for 2024 has already been carried out and will be revealed before the end of the year, with the aim that Mexicans can be in trend once it has started.
For the creation of color trends and the color of the year, the program brings together creative leaders for several days, as well as expert institutions in forecasting consumer trends and other organizations that use color as a work tool; during this period, professionals share talks and reflections in a place that invites to awaken the imagination.
It is a process made by Mexicans for Mexicans, which consists of analyzing social, cultural and political events both internationally and locally.
Subsequently, a guiding thread is defined that will lead to the selection of colors that will be in trend the following year. Likewise, the use of color is promoted in all industries and it is invited to discover its power as a visual tool to improve the environment.
“At Comex, we know that color is the raw material of creativity, which allows us to decorate and give life to our spaces, regardless of whether they are internal or external. Thanks to this element we can create combinations as versatile and diverse as we human beings are. Every year, we work with prominent profiles in the design, architecture, fashion, and gastronomy sectors, among others, to forecast the colors that will predominate to beautify spaces,” said Liz Galván, Director of the ColorLife TRENDS program at Comex.
