Due to their perseverance and academic excellence, the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) announced the names of its best medical students Through a ceremony in which the head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Leticia Ramírez Amaya, participated, the Lázaro Cárdenas Award was delivered. It is one of the highest recognitions for students, teachers and researchers from all over the country.
The official stressed that to dignify and revalue public schools, teachers, students and workers in the sector are required. In this way, the disqualification of public institutions, pragmatism, utilitarianism, racism and classism are broken.
The future of Mexican research
He said that the and the young IPN students will soon be in the research spaces, in front of the classrooms and in the workplace assuming what an increasingly complex world demands from collaboration and integration.
“No one can doubt the excellence of the graduates of the Polytechnic, we all recognize the contributions to research and professional practice of the polytechnic community.”
He stressed that, although The Lázaro Cárdenas medal was not awarded in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the pandemic did not disrupt the vocation of service, but rather fueled it. He assured that along with the health professionals, the National Educational System, students and teachers of the Polytechnic were at the forefront, working and providing solutions.
He recalled that, since January 1, 1936, when the decree of the president Lazaro Cardenas del Rio For the creation of the IPN, the objective of training engineers and technicians who contributed to the scientific and technological sovereignty of Mexico was imposed.
He commented that the IPN is a fundamental institution in the professional development of many Mexicans and foreigners who have had the vocation to study some engineering, health or biological sciences, humanities or administrative and social sciences.
“Today we find ourselves with an institute with a wide range of careers and postgraduate courses in 22 federal entities, in addition to the very important presence in Mexico City, and with an extensive academic mobility program.”

Recent work of the IPN
Accompanied by former general directors and relatives of the winners, the general director of the IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandovalexpressed that this medal honors the memory of the illustrious founder of the institution, General Lázaro Cárdenas.
“In it the highest principles and values of the IPN are manifested, of a community that adapts to adversities, proposes alternatives and offers diverse paths to move forward for the benefit of Mexico.”
He stressed that the Polytechnic currently has enrollment of 220 thousand studentswith which it advances in its internationalization and promotes the great projects of the Government of Mexico with the knowledge and innovations of its students and teachers, as well as with infrastructure and border equipment.
He stressed that, with National Laboratory of Vaccinology and Tropical Viruses, Mexico advances in the consolidation of its scientific sovereignty and in the development of vaccines and biopharmaceuticals. Its infrastructure will make it possible to make the first Graduate Program in Vaccinology a reality worldwide.
Reyes Sandoval mentioned the great equipment and infrastructure efforts of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Centers, Milpa Alta and Santo Tomás unitsin addition to the start-up of the Heavy Laboratory of the Interdisciplinary Professional Unit in Engineering and Advanced Technologies (Upiita).
