Social networks are spaces to be in contact with loved ones, to meet new people, learn and be entertained, but they also help to find people and groups with similar tastes and interests to yours, so that you have with whom to share those passions that they can be misunderstood in your close circle.
Thus, spaces such as Facebook groups have gained great popularity among users. Now, Twitter also gives its users the opportunity to join thematic communities according to their interests, thanks to the new function of Communities, which It is already tested in the app for iOS and in the web version of the social network, while it will soon arrive for Android.
Communities is the exclusive space for groups on Twitter, where some of the first groups available will focus on topics such as: sneakers, astrology, skincare, and dogs. What is sought is that this is a more intimate place for conversations on topics of particular interest.
Communities are dedicated to specific topics, and members can tweet to a dedicated group timeline. Each community has its own moderators, who establish the rules of publication and coexistence for the group, and users must be invited by a member or moderator to join.
This function seeks to help users, especially new ones, not to get lost in the sea of accounts and information shared on the platform, so that it is easier for them to find what meets their interests.
This objective began to be covered with Topics, which when followed makes related publications appear on the timeline, regardless of whether or not the accounts that publish them are followed; but Communities takes this idea one step further.
For now, Twitter kicks off this new functionality with a few communities that, as already mentioned, will be focused on sneakers, astrology, skincare, and dogs. More themes will be added later and even, Twitter stated that in the coming months the option will be opened for more users to create new communities.
Unlike Facebook Groups, where you can choose to be public, private, or even secret, all communities are publicly accessible and visible to any user on Twitter; there is no private or “secret” community, although only members can participate directly in the discussion.
