The autonomy of the Volkswagen ID.3 Life

In the bowels of the only ID.3 that we can currently configure in the Spanish market is a 58 kWh lithium-ion battery whose main objective is to feed a single motor of 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm of maximum torque. The electric motor is installed on the rear axle, so we are dealing with a rear-wheel drive vehicle.

This engine allows the German electric to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The autonomy is 415 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. It declares an average energy consumption of 15.6 kWh at 100 km respectively. By the way, autonomy in the urban cycle is close to 600 km.

Recall that, in the recent past, the ID.3 has been available with a 45 kWh battery that offers a range of 348 km, and also with an 82 kWh battery, which can travel up to 543 km on a single charge. Therefore, Volkswagen has kept the intermediate battery in its portfolio. However, this directly affects the sale price.

It is time to talk about prices. How much is the only version of the ID.3 that is currently available in Spain worth? The price of the ID.3 with Life finish and 58 kWh battery is, according to the configurator, €43,765. As there are no more alternatives in the range, we are faced with the fact that the starting price of the ID.3 has increased significantly and is once again above the 40,000 km barrier.

Such a limited supply will negatively affect the commercial performance of the ID.3, hopefully its sales figures will suffer. The Volkswagen Group continues to work on increasing its production capacity for electric cars in the midst of the microchip crisis. The company has had to adapt to the current times and allocate available microchips and semiconductors to the most profitable versions and/or models
of each of its brands. That is why in recent months certain versions of this electric have been disappearing.

Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, expects vehicle production to begin to pick up this year as the global shortage of microchips fades. It will be then when Volkswagen is in a position to once again increase the supply of those models that have been hampered by this complicated situation. Meanwhile, the ID.3 will have to deal with such a short range that reminds us of certain Chinese cars that are marketed in this part of the world.
