For many, all-wheel drive is key in some business models. The Volkswagen Caddy is available with the 4MOTION system but, given the long delivery times, the Germans from Seikel offer a package of components that solves this problem by transforming the German model and also the new Ford Tourneo Connect into an off-roader.
The fifth generation of the Volkswagen Caddy is offered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, a system that is not available in the twin of the blue oval, the Ford Tourneo Connect. Two commercial vehicles that can be adapted with a special package developed by the German house of Seikel and that allows to have a aptitude more adapted to rolling off the asphalt without having to have this system that supposes an important extra in the purchase invoice.
The big disadvantage of the all-wheel drive system in this Volkswagen model is that does not have an extra height of the bodywork to the ground, so in special circumstances success is not so assured. This disadvantage is solved by Seikel, authentic specialists in this field and, especially, in Volkswagen models transforming into SUVs to the T3, T4, T5 and T6, and now also offered in the new generation of the Caddy and in the Ford Tourneo Connect.
Seikel package reinforces off-road driving
Seikel offers this package for the front and all-wheel drive versions of the Caddy 4MOTION, whether they are passenger variants, the special Caddy Panamericana and Caddy California, or those intended for commercial use. The package includes new springs and dampers on the front axle and spacer plates at the rear, raising the ride height to the ground by 20 millimeters. An increase that is standard on front or all-wheel drive versions.
Thanks to this interesting solution, the Caddy and the Ford Tourneo Connect can mount larger tires, including also off-road specifications homologating sizes up to 215/60 R16. The specialist also adds a special plate for the protection of the front underbody called “Desert Plus”, made with a five-millimeter-thick aluminum sheet for those who fear that their exits from the asphalt may damage the transmission or the crankcase, replacing the usual piece of plastic that acts as a skid plate.
A very interesting extra, which does not require a great assembly time, but it is not cheap either. Seikel offers the chassis modification package for a price of 1,047.20 Euros in Germany, while the skid plate adds a significant peak to the bill, with an extra 1,059.10 Euros. Of course, in return, the Volkswagen and Ford models can become SUVs and get out of special situations more gracefully.
