The latest events of Elon Musk, such as a series of tweets in which he hinted at agreements that would benefit Putin and Russia, are not liking the United States government at all. As reported Bloombergthe Joe Biden administration is studying to investigate some of the most recent moves by the tycoonwhich include the purchase of Twitter.
The investigation, if it is finally carried out, will be carried out “for reasons of national security”, as sources have confirmed to the aforementioned media. The United States government is concerned, above all, that Musk can carry out the purchase of the social network with the help of foreign investors. The acquisition of the platform, let us remember, has been taken up for 44,000 million dollars, a figure that could be covered with the help of investors such as Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, Binance Holdings Ltd., a Chinese crypto-asset company, and the fund sovereign wealth of Qatar.
It is not clear how the Biden administration could review companies owned by Elon Musk. It is even something that they are still evaluating. One of the possible ways to investigate the tycoon’s companies is through the inter-institutional panel (CFIUS), where purchases of US firms by foreign buyers are studied.
This, in fact, could be used to investigate the purchase of Twitter. Especially considering that many of Musk’s investors for the Twitter acquisition are from outside the United States. In any case, it is unknown if it could also be the legal way to review the rest of the companies.
Elon Musk: from collaborating with the US government, to being investigated by it
This, moreover, would not be the first time that the United States Government has investigated Elon Musk for his actions. A few months ago, the tycoon also underwent a review of his federal security clearance from SpaceX. for smoking marijuana in the podcast he made with Joe Rogan. However, and according to sources from Elon Musk’s company, it did not have an impact on the company.
In this case, however, the moves by Elon Musk are far more concerning than what he did during his interview with Rogan. Especially considering that SpaceX participates in space programs for the Pentagon. Musk, specifically, wanted to disable Starlink service in Ukraine after assuring that its implementation has cost 80 million dollars. Subsequently, the employer hinted that to end Russia’s invasion of Ukrainean amicable pact should be made with Vladimir Putin.
