Compared to April 2021, the unemployed population decreased by 872,000 people and the unemployment rate was lower by 1.6 percentage points.
Restaurants and hotels boost employment
The sector with the highest increase in its employed population was restaurants and accommodation services, adding 776,000 workers compared to April 2021. It was followed by commerce and the manufacturing industry, with increases of 719,000 and 513,000 people, respectively. .
Most earn between one and 2 minimum wages
Inegi figures also show that almost 40 million workers (67.1%) work for a salary of up to 345.74 pesos per day.
Specifically, 33.8% of employed people in Mexico earn up to 172.87 pesos per day and another 33.3% earn between one and two minimum wages. Only 1.5% of workers earn more than 5 minimum daily wages; that is, more than 864.35 pesos.
Informality
The population employed in labor informality was 32 million people and the Labor Informality Rate was 55.5% of the employed population, 0.1 percentage points lower than that of April 2021, reported the Inegi.
