There are many reasons that we can think of to justify opening a bottle of wine, and in reality we should not need a special reason to enjoy this great moment, toasting with our people. But today’s has not so much to do with the celebration of life, but with the wine conservation. Since not all wines need the same care when what we are looking for is to be able to consume them at their optimum moment.
Specifically, there are two types of wine with which you have to be especially careful and take them down from the loft of the closet when you see that they have been collecting dust for some time. Below we explain why this happens and thus prevent you from getting upset when it is too late.
General tips for preserving your wines
It never hurts to review everything we can do to always offer our guests a wine in perfect condition as well as fresh. Here are a few recommendations!
Temperature: It is one of the most important things, but not the only one to consider. In this sense, you should know that red wine, which is generally a full-bodied wine, it is likely to break if it is not at a temperature between 12 °C and 16 °C. In no case will a red wine be able to maintain its type if it is kept at less than 11 °C or more than 18 °C. If we look at the whites, we are going to have to talk about a very different temperature that of the reds. Unlike these, they can be cooled a little more and the ideal temperature would be between 8 °C and 12 °C.
Position: If you want to keep a bottle for a long time, the ideal is place it horizontally. In this way, the cork will remain in contact with the wine at all times and will not dry out.
Light: The wine cellar, or the wine in question, should never be exposed to sunlightas this could damage the bottle and end up oxidizing the drink.
Humidity: We already know that the bottles are closed, but that does not prevent them from being free of evaporation. Hence it is recommended to keep a degree of humidity between 80% and 85%.
Ventilated environment: The room where you store the wine should not have vibrations and should be well ventilated, thus preventing the wine from absorbing odours.

And what about sparkling wines and young people?
As we knew that these two types of wines were going to generate more doubts, we have left them for last. So take note if you are one of those who have succumbed to the charms of wines that are booming (we are referring to the first).
It is important that you know that the sparkling They are wines that over time they are losing carbon gas. That is why it is recommended to consume them throughout the year, with a maximum period of two years if stored in perfect conditions.
Its maximum temperature to be tasted in a pleasant way is around 10 °C. But, eye, that the rosé wines are a separate topic. The optimum storage temperature, in this case, is between 10 °C and 12 °C, although they can also be served less cold, between 12 °C and 14 °C.
And we come to young wines! Broadly speaking, those also known as “wines of the year”very popular in some areas of the Basque Country, which must not exceed the year of storage (An exception could be made for those wines that have been in the barrel for a few months, such as young oaks, but not many more). It is important, within this period, to choose a space that is not affected by sudden temperature changes and keep the degree of humidity at 50% (if it is 80% nothing happens either).
