A study recently published in the journal Nature details that the core of the Earth, a permanent topic of conversation in the scientific community since it became known that it stopped, resembles what has been called a “time capsule”.

As the report published on the website of Nat Geo in Spanish the report cites, the interior of our planet’s core holds traces of Earth’s oldest natural history or, in other words, it reveals what the world was like in the beginning.

Researchers at the Australian National University (ANU) point out that even if we know everything about the Earth’s core, studying it is truly difficult.

“The heart of our planet is finally revealing its true nature: The Earth’s core contains the oldest natural history on Earth.”, mentions the report.

Seismologists, geologists and other scientists who are dedicated to understanding it cannot “drill” the planet to its center. On the contrary, they have used seismic activity to find out what its nature is and what changes it has had over time.

What do the experts think?

The ANU researchers are very clear that the center of the Earth is fundamental to understanding how our planet was created and how it has evolved.

“our findings strengthen evidence for an anisotropically distinctive innermost core and its transition to a weakly anisotropic outer shell, which could be a fossilized record of a significant past global event”, write the authors of the study.

The researchers refer to the structure of the Earth, of concentric layers, which from the Earth’s core are superimposed one on the other. In addition, the heart of the Earth is divided into two, the inner core (it is solid; a ball of iron and nickel with a radius of 650 kilometers) and the outer one (it is liquid and consists mainly of molten rock).

This metal ball grows and releases energy that is converted to heat in the outer core, creating a dynamo effect, which promotes Earth’s healthy magnetic field.

The scientists discovered that inside the inner core there is another ball tucked. When they gain access to it, they will be able to tell us what the “time capsule” hides.
