In great news for the entire strategy gaming community, Midjiwan AB, an independent developer, announced that The Battle of Polytopia, the popular 4X strategy video game, has received a major update: diplomacy, a important new technology, to skills.
Something that we find quite curious is that, now, it will be available for free in the most recent versions of Polytopia on the App Store, Google Play and Steam. The technology includes a wide variety of unique features that add a whole new layer of complexity to the gaming experience, such as peace treaties, embassies, tribal relations, and more.
“The skill of diplomacy is the most important update to the gaming experience of The Battle of Polytopia. It is the result of years of development, testing and hard work,” said Christian Lovstedt, General Manager of Midjiwan AB. “The update brings a new level of complexity and fun to the game. We look forward to players trying out these new features that we have prepared for them.”
In short, the new diplomacy features will allow players to form alliances with other human and AI players, build embassies, find player capitals, dispatch spies, and launch sophisticated stealth attacks that catch enemies by surprise. Players must be vigilant in mastering and countering this new set of tools available in their arsenal.
The diplomacy skill can be used in both multiplayer and single player modes. Basically, this skill was created to allow players to form alliances and defeat more powerful enemies. However, when the heat of battle subsides, only one player can be left standing.
Key Functions of the Diplomacy Skill
peace treaties
Form alliances with former enemies…until one side tires. Teammates cannot attack each other and can share paths.
layers
These specialist infiltration units were trained in the art of subterfuge and clandestine operations. In addition, they have two new abilities: stealth and infiltration. Cloaked units are invisible to enemy units until they perform an action.
Relations with the tribes
Thanks to the tribe relationship systems, players can evaluate which tribes they can befriend. The colored bubbles offer detailed information about what the tribes think of each other.
embassies
These diplomatic buildings can only be built in the capitals of other tribes when the players are not at war with each other. Embassies reveal an area of 8 adjacent spaces and provide monetary rewards each turn.
daggers
Rebel units goaded by the cloak to attack an enemy city. Daggers are the best units for guerrilla warfare due to their surprise attacks, as they leave the enemy without reaction.
Visualization of the capitals
Visualize the location of the capital of each tribe you discovered. The display of capitals will also take effect when players encounter a new player, allowing them to make better tactical decisions. The Skill of Diplomacy is now available for free in the latest versions of Polytopia on the App Store, Google Play, and Steam.
