Although it is true that this market segment existed for a long time before the Steam Deck broke through, the niche has now proliferated to an unprecedented level. New competitors to Valve’s portable PC are arriving at a rapid pace, and while the Steam Deck remains one of the most powerful devices in this category, a more powerful competitor may just have been announced.
Specifically, the next AOKZOE A1 seems to be on the way to overcoming the Steam Deck performance-wise as it is supposed to be the first gaming laptop to come equipped with the powerful AMD 6800U. A lot has already been revealed about the device at this point, and it seems that AOKZOE intends to make a name for itself on its first try.
Featuring an impressive 8-inch 1920×1200 display with a pixel density of 283 PPI, the manufacturer claims that the AOKZOE A1 will be able to run Forza Horizon 5 at over 100 FPS thanks to its Radeon 680M graphics chip. If correct, these statements would place the AOKZOE A1 far above the hardware specifications of the Steam Deckwhose display also renders the image at a substantially lower resolution.
However, it should be noted that it has not yet been said whether the screen of the A1 will be able to render the game at over 60hz. AOKZOE has yet to announce the price range of the A1, though it’s worth noting that the device will come in at least two different SKUs. The A1 Ultimate will have a 65 Wh battery compared to 48 Wh in the base model, and it will be heavier.
Some versions of A1 they’ll also have 16GB of RAM, while others will come with 32GB, and it’s not yet clear if the distinction refers to spec differences between the A1 and A1 Ultimate, or if buyers will be able to choose how much RAM they want. and maybe even update it later, as users can already modify the Steam Deck.
The AOKZOE A1 it’s going to have all the usual conveniences that laptop gamers have come to appreciate by now. Gyroscopic aiming and linear triggers are a key example, though the manufacturer also highlights fast charging, which should ensure minimal downtime between gaming sessions.
Although the Steam Deck Already compatible with Windows, AOKZOE made it clear that the A1 would be fully compatible with Windows and SteamOS from day one. The AOKZOE A1 will arrive in July 2022.
