There are many demands that doctors in our country receive within their daily hours. Most have a heavy workload due to the large number of patients that must be seen. The challenge is between offering a complete quality service but without extending yourself too much because there are others out there who require your services. For this reason, it is considered to be the profession with the highest rate of Burnout Syndrome. Although in the end it is an irony that those in charge of taking care of the health of others cannot take care of their own.
For their part, another aspect that physicians have against them is that hospital facilities are not always adequate. Especially within the public sector is where there are more deficiencies. That complicates and frustrates people because despite wanting to do their best they don’t have the right tools. While the patient is also affected by these types of circumstances.
Now, in the same way that doctors are asked too much, what is offered must also be analyzed. In this case we are not referring to wages and unfortunately Mexico is not a country that stands out in this area. In this regard, a study carried out by the Belisario Domínguez Institute showed that a doctor in Mexico earns three times less than one of his colleagues in Brazil or Spain. Although in the end both do the same activities.
But although the salaries that doctors receive in our country are not usually attractive, another parameter must also be taken into account. The same pay is not offered throughout the national territory. There are strong differences between the states and this means that some regions offer more attractive retributions.
Where do doctors pay the least?
In this regard the portal National Observatory published the results of a survey with the wages that prevail within the health sector in our country. It is stated that the average monthly payment of a doctor in Mexico is 16,761 pesos. Although one of the drawbacks is that while in some states they receive more in others, the opposite occurs. Based on the work, it is mentioned that the states that pay the worst for their health workers are the following:
- Warrior – $ 7,972
- Tlaxcala – $ 8,851
- Veracruz – $ 9,328
- Morelos – $ 9,329
- Chiapas – $ 9,512
- Oaxaca – $ 9,542
In that sense, Guerrero ranks last with respect to the salary of a doctor from any other part of the country. The salary is so low that it represents half of the average pay nationwide. While in general the southern part of the country is the most affected because it is where this situation prevails.
For its part, there are also other aspects that exist throughout Mexico but predominate in that region. One of the most worrying is violence. Especially in rural areas is where more aggressions against health professionals are reported, even since they come to perform their social service.
On the other hand, the southeast of the country is also one of the areas with the greatest backwardness in our country. Both in Guerrero and in Oaxaca and Chiapas there are medical units with obsolete equipment and a personnel deficit prevails. With this in mind, they must not only work with the minimum of resources but also with a meager pay that does not even reach 10,000 pesos a month.
