It is common knowledge that The Simpsons have been giving us situations for more than 30 years that end up becoming reality, something that makes us wonder: How do they predict the future? Finally, an episode of season 34 will give us the long-awaited answer.
The Simpson They have been generating content since 1989 and, despite already having more than 700 episodes in their catalog, there are still things we would like to discover about this popular and beloved yellow family from Springfield. One of them is how it is possible that a television program can predict the future on more than one occasion. Luckily, we will have an answer in an episode of season 34.
After three decades on the air, The Simpson they earned a reputation for predicting the future, something that never ceases to amaze us. Some of these events were: a pandemic (similar to COVID) thanks to a virus from China (“Marge in chains“, 1993); see how the family communicates by video calls (“Lisa’s wedding“, nineteen ninety five); Donald Trump President of the United States (“Bart to the future“, 2000); and Disney buys Fox (“when you long for a star“, 1998); among many others.
The showrunner of the series, Matt Selmanspoke with Deadline and not only shared new details about the upcoming season, which he said is “probably the best season 34 of any show you’ve ever seen”. But he also clarified that the audience will finally find out how they were predicting the future. “It’s a concept episode with a lot of crazy stuff, but it explains how The Simpson can predict the future“, said.
Previously, selman and fellow producer Al Jean They’ve already discussed this with IGN and said that those predictions were due to the amount of time the show was on the air. “If you just do more episodes over more decades than all other shows, you’ll get more predictions correct.“, said selman. “And we really beat all the other shows when it comes to decades.”
However, it looks like we’ll see this in a little more depth (and humor) in the next season. This will officially debut in the US on September 25 (after which it will hit Disney+ Already Star+).
In addition to having a chapter on how they predict the future, season 34 will also show us a new boyfriend from Lisa (who will have the voice of Simu Liu of Shang Chi). On the other hand, we will have an episode where krusty has some kind of talk show Ellen Degeneres; and even the participation of Melissa McCarthywho will play a girl who is the rival of Homer for grandpa’s sake.
Apart from that, there will also be the typical Halloween episodes. This year there will be two of “Treehouse of Horror“. One will have three scary stories (one of them will include an anime parody of death note), while the other will be a full-length chapter parodying the book Item of Stephen King, where krusty will be penny-wise.
In this season 34 we will also have a chapter where we will see Homer getting involved in a conspiracy while looking for a missing turtle.
For a series like The Simpson, which has 33 seasons (and more), one of its biggest challenges is keeping the series fresh. This difficult task falls on the writer, executive producer and showrunner Matt Selmanwho says that making sure each episode is unique, different and has something new to say is his “greatest creative challenge“. “Fortunately, the world continues to deliver things that need to be reflected in the mirror of Springfield,” said selman.
Despite this being his 34th season, the showrunner is “enthusiastic” with the new batch of chapters that are coming in mid-September.
