The Apple Watch Ultra promises unprecedented battery life. Compared to the Apple Watch Series 8 and SE, its autonomy goes from a theoretical 18 hours to twice as much, 36 hours. 60 with low power mode. This is a very important leap compared to one of the most criticized features of the Apple Watch: its autonomy.
But what is the secret behind the improvements? It is not so much in the improvements in efficiency, since the chip that governs both devices (Series 8 and Ultra) is the same, but one doubles the battery in another. The reason is in the size of it. The Apple Watch Ultra is bigger than the Series 8, but not Twice as big to have twice the battery.
Now thanks to the device certification, we know for a fact that your battery is bigger. How many? Much more. The Apple Watch Ultra features a 542mAh battery, compared to the 45mm Apple Watch Series 8, which features a 308mAh battery. This is a 76% increase in the size and capacity of the same for the Apple Watch Ultra compared to the larger Apple Watch of the standard model.
But it is not the only surprise. Certification documents also confirm that the Apple Watch Series 8 features the same CPU as Series 6 and 7, the new Apple Watch also shares the same battery size.
For its part, the 41 mm Apple Watch Series 8 has a 282mAh battery capacity, while the same-sized Series 7 features a 284mAh battery. The change is so small that it is practically impossible for a user, making general use of the watch, to notice the difference in battery life. And the same goes for 45mm watches.
In contrast, the SE, by not having a screen always on, or blood oxygen monitoring, its energy demands are lower. That is why it is capable of offering the same autonomy as the Series 8 with a smaller battery. In the case of the 40mm version it stays at 245mAh, while the 44mm variant has a 296mAh battery.
