Is Sauron hidden under the face of Halbrand? The mystery of the season The Rings of Powerof Prime Videomight have given his clearest hint during episode 7. Especially since the king of the Southlands is on his way to the Elven Kingdom of Lindon.
More worrying still: is Celeborn dead, as Galadriel hinted to Theo? For the first time The Rings of Power names the character, husband of Galadriel in literary fiction. But he only does it to reveal his possible death. This is a curious plot direction. One that contradicts most of Tolkien’s mythology associated with Galadriel. Also, that explores complicated places on how the series could analyze its different scenarios in the future.
Everything that happened in the antepenultimate chapter of the first season makes it clear that The Rings of Power is heading for an ending with a plot twist that is meant to be shocking. Above all because You just blatantly contradicted Galadriel’s story in one of its fundamental aspects. Also, he brought the character closer to an unknown eventuality.
Could Galadriel somehow be the trigger for Númenor’s destruction? As already announced, the arrival of the Elven Lady on the island is one of the signs of impending destruction. Does the series take its argument in that direction?
Now, the cataclysm, which in the original story occurs through the direct intervention of Sauron, could have its first hint in episode seven. Galadriel, who was apparently widowed after her husband Celeborn was killed during the war against Morgoth, seems to have feelings for Halbrand. So much so that after finding him wounded after the devastation of the Southlands, he decides to take him with her to Lindon. The reason? Heal his wounds. The journey begins with the new king of the Southlands, riding alongside Galadriel to the elven domains.
The Rings of Power is the new phenomenon that everyone is talking about and that you can not miss
A look into history to unite them all
The providential chance could cause a series of direct events. Among them, the fact that Halbrand, when found in the company of the Commander of the North, gains the trust of the Elven Kingdom. The above could be a version of Sauron’s first step in forging the One Ring.
In JRR Tolkien’s imagined story, the Dark Lord takes the form of a beautiful and seemingly harmless being called Annatar. The latter will manage to manipulate Celebrimbor to forge the Rings of Power.
Later, Sauron himself will create a mysterious magical object in the fire of the Mountain of Fate. In chapter six of the series, the origin of the emblematic place of Middle-earth was narrated. A point that supports the theory that Halbrand is not all that he seemsand that his elusive and enigmatic behavior obeys a strategy.
One that, in The Rings of Power, will take you to Lindon, who is stalked by darkness and is in a moment of particular weakness. The ideal opportunity to go unnoticed in the midst of the emergency and influence the elven blacksmith Celebrimbor.
Galadriel’s surprising widowhood in The Rings of Power
As if all of the above wasn’t enough, the chapter also included a reveal that contradicts Galadriel’s essential story. After escaping to the devastation of the Southlands, the Elven Lady sets out for the outpost of Númenor in the company of Theo. On the night of one of the long days, she ends up making a little less than disconcerting confession.
Asked by the teenager if he lost someone he loved during the elven race’s long confrontation with Sauron, Galadriel tells her story. “My brother Finrod,” he explains. To later add. “Also, to my husband Celeborn”. For weeks, fans have wondered how the show’s writers would include the character. By the Second Age in which the narrative takes place, the Lady of Valinor had already married the young Elf Lord. But her apparent death —Galadriel specifies that he went to war and never saw him again— changes the picture.
This fact not only affects everything related to the creation of the Kingdom of Lothlórien, but also the birth of celebrate, future wife of Elrond and mother of Arwen. But it is that the chapter also hints that the Elven Lady assumes the fact as a certainty. So much, as to feel an evident and increasingly strong attraction to Halbrand.
With Halbrand on his way to Lindon, invested as king of the Southlands and in the company of Galadriel, the panorama in the series is complicated. If he turns out to be Sauron, he didn’t just trick the Elven Lady. Also, reconstructed the notion about good and evil in the argument, a theme that the script deepened in the previous chapter.
Finally, a possible link between Halbrand and Galadriel —even friendship— belies Tolkian mythology. In it, it is clear that the Elven Lady could never be deceived by Sauron. But, according to the narrative threads of the series, her agreement with the mysterious man would change the story essentially. Lastly, she too would open the gates of Númenor – even as a prisoner – to Halbrand. This is the first point of destruction on the Isle of Westmen.
The Rings of Power they might as well make the risky decision to create a side story. However, it would come at a very high cost in terms of the future of the franchise. Will the writers room run it? We’ll see…
