Qualcomm has just repeated the 2018 and 2019 move with its flagship processor. It just introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, a slightly more powerful processor than the current Snapdragon 865. We already know what the differences between the two chips are and whether it is worth investing a little more to buy a mobile with this more updated processor. We can tell you that not much because the difference announced by the company itself will be difficult to capture in the daily life of users.
This is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus
This new processor is 10% more powerful than the current Snapdragon 865. Qualcomm has announced it with slight improvements in clock speed and support for more WiFi transmission speeds. The changes are few and it may be necessary to justify them a bit if you are going to pay much more for mobile with this new processor.
The main difference with the Snapdragon 865 is found in the Kryo 585 Prime cores, which are capable of increasing the clock speed to 3.1 GHz and increasing the overall power of the processor by 10%. This 10% is also reflected in the Adreno 650 GPU that does not change but is now more powerful. The processor still has 8 cores and is manufactured in 7 nanometers, so it can be said that the company has overclocked the processor to make it a little more powerful.
The increase in power is not the only novelty, as this Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus includes compatibility with Fast Connect 6900, a technology of Qualcomm itself that will allow this processor to support WiFi speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps, compatibility with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Everything indicates that Qualcomm has included this so that the novelties of the processor were not only that small increase in performance.
Still, the reality is that the Snapdragon 865 is already a great processor to need a more powerful chip. The 10% difference in performance is most likely summed up in an identical experience for users in games or heavy applications.
It is not worth investing in mobile with the Snapdragon 865 Plus
Already have a mobile with the Snapdragon 865? Did you have a device in mind with the Snapdragon 865? Do not leave it aside, the difference between the two processors will not be noticeable on a day-to-day basis. This 10% difference is already found in the management of different manufacturers with this processor: not all phones with the Snapdragon 865 have the same performance. There are brands that are able to squeeze this processor much better and offer 10% higher performance than others with the same processor.
Our recommendation is that you do not pay too much attention to the new marketing that is going to emerge with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, because it will not make a difference compared to mobile with the Snapdragon 865.
What do you think about the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus? Do you think it’s worth it?
