It is the sportiest model in the Nissan catalog, which, to this day, has not succumbed to any form of electrification. The Nissan GT-R was launched on the market in 2007 and has been on sale for 15 years. Now, with the order books for the exclusive GT-R T-Spec closed, the disappearance of the R35 and the arrival of a new generation is beginning to be suspected.
At the end of last summer, Nissan presented a package of improvements for the most exclusive model in its product range, accompanied by two special editions, the Premium Edition T-Spec Y GT-R Track Edition Engineered by Nismo T-Spec. Both have been available in Japan and the first also in Australia, each with a special personality.
But, according to German sources, the order books for the GT-R in the Land of the Rising Sun have already been closed, with all the production of the year 2022 absolutely sold. In addition, the model has been leaving the offer in different markets, in Europe for not adapting to the new noise and noise pollution regulations, and in others such as Australia, it abandoned sales at the end of last year. Practically only the United States remains, where the 2021 edition is still sold.
The arrival of the future Nissan GT-R R36 is glimpsed
Famously known as “Godzilla», the progressive disappearance of the sports model from these markets, and also from the domestic Japanese, has opened the box of rumors pointing out that Nissan would already be cooking a new generation, the one baptized as R36. Something that is not surprising if we take into account that the R35 hit the market in 2007 and has doubled the usual commercial life cycleaccumulating no less than 15 years behind him.
The truth is the R36 has already been brewing for four years. Alfonso Albaisa himself confirmed in 2018 that this development had begun, but so far not a single hint of prototypes has been seen. Something that, on the other hand, is normal, since the development is carried out in the central facilities of Japan and the spy photos are not as common as in Europe or other regions of the world, to which is added that they carry out their tests in circuits well protected from the outside.
Nissan won’t give up on a GT-R successor, but is required to integrate a form of electrification on board the sports car. British sources pointed out last fall that the manufacturer is working on a new high-performance hybrid drivetrain based on the new Z’s V6 engineat the same time that more recently one of those responsible for the brand has pointed out that the saga of the sports car will continue in the era of electric cars, transforming into a zero-emission model. What is clearer is that, after 15 years, we will see a completely new generation, and it will not be long in coming.
