For this reason, at Save the Children, from our Strategic Alliances area, we form a Steering Group with companies interested in the defense and promotion of the rights of girls and boys to generate practices aligned with respect for human rights, especially in the prevention of child labor in the garment industry.
So far the response has been very positive and encouraging. Large brands such as C&A, El Puerto de Liverpool, El Palacio de Hierro, Grupo Ilusión, Calzado Berrendo, as well as the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the state of Guanajuato (CICEG) and the National Chamber of the Textile Industry (CANAINTEX), have they showed an admirable but above all tangible commitment.
Together we generated a “toolbox” made up of a Declaration to Prevent and Eradicate Child Labor, and a Guide to Prepare a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, to promote good business practices that help to eradicate child labor in operations. own and in the companies’ supply chains.
This year our objective has focused on adding more allies to our cause and continuing to promote solutions that ensure that operations and value chains are free of child labor.
In this sense, next June 13 -one day after the International Day Against Child Labor- at 10 am (CDMX time) in conjunction with the Center for Children’s Rights and Companies, we will carry out the Forum “Actions to Eradicate Child Labor in the Private Sector” through which the experiences of civil society organizations and the actions of the private sector in the eradication of child labor will be presented.
We will have the participation of key figures such as: Jane Hwang (Executive Director of SAI), Chris Kaempfer (CEO of the Child Rights and Business Centre), María Gloria Barreiro (Executive Director of DYA), Omar Nacib Festefan Fuentes (General Director of Social Welfare of the STPS), Alejandra Sánchez (C&A Mexico Sustainability Leader), Fernando Estrada (General Director of the Sonora Mining Cluster) and Armando Ortega (Director of Human Rights, The Coca-Cola Company – Americas).
