The Peugeot 9X8 was presented without a rear spoiler. A risky bet that was left in doubt after the shakedown, since Peugeot Sport only published a photo of its prototype with the rear part digitally hidden.. From the mark of the lion they had no problem feeding these doubts and, in fact, they continue to do so. However, the only tangible reality at the moment is that The Peugeot 9X8 has rolled without a rear wing in its first test session at the MotorLand Aragón circuit.
It still seems early to ensure that the solution chosen by Peugeot is adequate and definitive, but it seems that the 9X8 dispenses with a rear spoiler and does opt for fins behind the wheels, a solution similar to that found on the Ferrari FXX K. For the time being, the tests at MotorLand Aragón are aimed at endorsing this solution, since the Teruel track has a very long straight and sections of fast curves with great aerodynamic support that put any WEC prototype to the test.

Within the established script and with the well-learned speech, Olivier Jansoni As the person in charge of the project, he has once again cast doubt on the rear spoiler, absent for now, of the Peugeot 9X8: «The hypercar regulations authorize not to have a rear spoiler. Our computational and wind tunnel studies have pointed to the relevance of this choice. Test sessions on different tracks, with various specifications, will have to validate this option and the developments and adjustments that it requires».
Beyond the ‘debate’ about the rear wing, deadlines are tight for Peugeot Sport faced with the situation of making his 9X8 debut in one of the first two dates on the calendar in order to be on the grid for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At first, the team’s project is built to have two units of its Peugeot 9X8 in competition, with numbers #93 and #94. Neither of them will be in Sebring and sThe French prototype is expected to make its debut at the 6 Hours of Spa. Otherwise there will be no Le Mans for Peugeot.
Jean-Marc Finot has been clear about it: «Peugeot will not be at the start of the 2022 season at Sebring. The arrival at the race will be linked to the maturity of the 9X8, its reliability and its competitiveness. We could have opted for a partial commitment, without year registration, which is possible, but has less consistency. Thus, we immerse the team in the discipline completely, although the 9X8 will not compete in all the races, given the development program and the homologation of the car».
