After two years it seems that the pandemic is over, goodbye to the use of face masks, alcohol gel, the cancellation of concerts and empty streets, this is excellent news especially for the economic recovery, however, In the distance, the scars remain from the death of the 324,000 people who died from Covid 19 in Mexico, according to the Mexican government.
The pandemic hit everyone regardless of their social class, however, those who had the opportunity to pay for a private hospitalization service, who had the opportunity to stop working and isolate themselves or have treatment had a better chance of surviving.
Dr. Héctor Hernández Bringas, senior researcher at the Regional Center for Multidisciplinary Research (CRIM) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), carried out a socio-demographic profile of the people who died of Covid 19 in Mexico and found in his sample that 70 percent of the deceased had primary school education, lower or had no education.
In this way, until October 2021, socioeconomic deficiencies and ignorance of health measures may be a reflection of deaths, at least in the country, according to the specialist. On the other hand, he explains that the people who ignored previous illnesses because they did not have access to health care are also the ones who died.
The doctor’s study was based on the death certificates issued by the Ministry of Health and in it he discovered that two out of every three deaths were of men, which can be explained because it was the men who remained in their jobs, although the housewives and the unemployed accounted for 30 percent of deaths, while 13 percent were government employees.
On the other hand, the study: The effect of admission on mortality and hospitalization due to covid-19, which was carried out by external scientists in collaboration with specialists from the Mexican Institute of Social Monitoring (IMSS), showed that previous comorbidities were a decisive factor in dying. or not from Covid 19, however, a poor diabetic was more likely to die than a rich diabetic.
Once again, the most vulnerable population in the country was the most affected and it is painful to think that despite being sick they had to go to work and that is why they died and of course, if they did not go to work they would die of hunger at home.
This has been the most serious pandemic in the country and in the world in recent history, but more will come and it is a good opportunity to improve health services, but to really do it, improve education, reduce inequality gaps, that the authorities agree with such basic measures as the use of face masks, which in Mexico has been considered a political weapon and is even used by some to abuse by charging fines for using it even when it is no longer a “priority” according to federal authorities; If all of the above is not considered, history will repeat itself and contrary to what President López Obrador preaches so much, the poor will come first, but they will continue to die.
