Lamborghini Squadra Corse has made a determined commitment to have a leading role in the DTM. After competing in 2021 alongside T3 Motorsport, the Italian firm’s sports arm has turned to its trusted team to fight for great things in the German competition. GRT Grasser has broken into the DTM grid with four units of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evoto which were added two more units aligned by the T3 team itself, although this project has ended up succumbing due to internal issues.
In addition to having direct support from Lamborghini, the GRT Grasser team has four riders on the payroll with a direct contract with the brand or with a close relationship with the manufacturer from Sant’Agata Bolognese. The Italian Mirko Bortolotti is the jewel in the crownthe highest rated Lamborghini GT3 driver who has lived up to expectations with a really solid performance that has taken him to the lead in the DTM. Rolf Ineichen, Clemens Schmid and Alessio Deledda are drivers with extensive GT3 experience, but they are not finding their way to get the desired results.
Like is logic, Mirko Bortolotti has become the great representative of Lamborghini in the DTM: “I have finished in the points in seven of the eight races held so far. I am very proud of that. I achieved Lamborghini’s first pole position in the DTM and I have been on the podium four times. I go race by race always with the same focus, to give my best and achieve the best possible result. To be leader of the classification in the middle of the year is good, but it does not mean anything and, for now, I’m not thinking about getting the title».
Although it does not have a single point, Rolf Ineichen believes that his jump to the DTM has been the right step: «The DTM is being a new experience. It’s different from anything I’ve done before. The car with the Michelin tires is something I have to get used to. Everything feels faster and it’s nice. Making the jump to the DTM was the right step. However, in sporting terms I still have a lot of work ahead of me. The car requires a different style of driving and although we are improving every weekend, there is still something missing. I think we can show more».
Clemens Schmid is in a similar position to his partner: «We have learned a lot this season, but our pace is better than the results. I do not have doubts. We had bad luck in several races and we didn’t end up being where we should be. The weekend in Imola left us with good feelings. We want to show a better pace in the second half of the year and be in the top ten. The level of the DTM is extremely high and for us there is still room for improvement.. I look forward to the next challenges.”
