Mexico began to show signs that it is about to enter a next wave of Covid-19, according to the authorities and health specialists. For now, the Covid-19 epidemic in our country is on a plateau, that is, on a line where there are not many changes, which means that its downward trend has stopped.
Weeks 43 and 44 closed with similar figures in the number of infections, 17,941 and 17,317, respectively, according to the federal Ministry of Health (SSa). The graphs show that this plateau can begin to change and have an increase in cases in the coming weeks.
Health authorities emphasized that the rebound in the epidemic will take off next December, but the most accelerated increase in cases would occur in the second half of January 2023, although this will depend on the increase in mobility due to concerts and the holidays, among other factors. .
In fact, in some states in the north of the country, such as Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sonora and Baja California, rebounds in the epidemic are already beginning to be observed. In addition, the decrease in infections stagnated in Mexico City, Guanajuato, Nuevo León and Oaxaca.
Another sign that Mexico is heading towards a next wave is in the number of deaths, because despite the fact that fewer deaths are reported every week, said reduction is smaller and smaller. In week 46, which ran from November 14 to 20, the number of accumulated deaths decreased by 9.3% compared to the previous week.
So everything seems to indicate that we are heading straight for the next wave of Covid-19, so as we have always said in this column, do not forget to maintain all sanitary measures, especially in closed spaces with poor ventilation and public transport. Similarly, avoid crowds if possible.
HPV vaccination for adolescents will be reactivated
After a long period of absence due to the pandemic and a shortage of this vaccine, the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign for adolescents aged 13 and 14 will resume. The biological is recommended for a single dose.
The staff of the Ministry of Health (SSa) of Mexico City (CDMX), headed by Dr. Oliva López Arellano, will be going to public and private secondary schools in the Mexican capital to immunize 13 and 14-year-old girls .
This campaign was carried out before the pandemic in the fifth and sixth grades of primary school, but now, due to the two-year lag, the actions will begin in the first and second year of secondary education.
Good for this reactivation and hopefully this vaccination campaign that prevents cervical cancer will never be suspended again. By the way, they should also include men, who transmit the virus through sexual intercourse.
National Atopic Dermatitis Day
Within the framework of the “National Day of Atopic Dermatitis”, Pfizer presented the challenges and opportunities of medical dermatology in Latin America. Atopic dermatitis (AD) significantly affects people’s quality of life. This disease is characterized by dry skin, irritation and flaking, which evolves into bouts of intense itching that can lead to depression.
The blue pill laboratory released the study “Medical Increased knowledge and access to care in Latin America: case studies in AD and alopecia areata”, which was developed by the Institute for Human Data Science (IQVIA) and Pfizer.
Such an analysis reveals important points, such as that current AD treatments include different types of therapies that may present a variety of unmet needs, such as low efficacy, long-term safety concerns, or significant financial burden for patients.
Similarly, the study says, medical dermatology in general has had little innovation in the treatment of AD in recent decades, in addition to the fact that there are no treatment guidelines, or these are not updated frequently.
The study’s conclusions highlight the need to update treatment guidelines, create greater educational opportunities for physicians, and increase awareness of the disease with society and institutions, all of which will require a multidisciplinary approach with actions from different trenches. .
ECOCE, long tablecloths for its first 20 years of life
Ecology and Business Commitment (Ecoce) is a non-profit civil association that is celebrating its first 20 years, a period during which it has recovered around 80,000 tons of containers and packaging in its 20 years of operation, which represented savings of 62 million kilograms of raw material.

The collection of recyclable materials made by Ecoce also translates into 136 million kilograms of CO2 that were avoided from emitting into the atmosphere, which contributes to the reduction of global climate change, one of the main objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. .
Ecoce executives recalled that it all began two decades ago, in 2002, when a group of businessmen from the food and beverage industry, concerned about environmental problems when Mexico did not have a Waste Law or regulations or standards to handle it, formed Ecology and Business Commitment (Ecoce), in order to unite efforts of the private initiative, government and civil society. Congratulations.

- All the companies, organizations and institutions that have called on their hosts of workers to return to full face-to-face attendance in their offices should think twice, or have we not learned anything from the pandemic?
