Its new commercial name has been leaked and also the production design of the future Volvo EXC90, the new generation electric SUV that the Swedish brand will launch in 2023. The patents show an evolution in the style of the firm and with a clear inspiration in the Concept Recharge.
The upsets in Volvo have not ended with the leak of the new commercial name that those from Gothenburg have registered for the successor to the Volvo XC90. The brand’s largest SUV will become a 100% electric modeland which you can see in this new leak from the European patent registry that has completely revealed the future model from all angles.
And although at first glance it seems like a logical evolution in the style of Volvoin reality the patents show much more of this model that, until now, was known as «Embla». The future successor to the XC90, which is already in the making and should see the light of the spotlight before the end of the year, will be the embodiment of the design of the Concept Volvo Recharge. The new EXC90 it is bigger, growing in length and width but it will also be lower to improve aerodynamics.
Volvo EXC90 patents reveal innovative styling
The front has a more modern style, with a closed grille like the one on the XC40 Recharge, and some headlights that continue to maintain the “Thor’s Hammer” design but much thinner. A more modern style, turning towards the avant-garde at the back, because the EXC90 abandons a very characteristic feature: the vertical taillights taking advantage of the shoulders. Now they are arranged horizontally in a boomerang shape, and with a more recognizable luminous graphic.
This time, the filtration has not revealed the interior design but the digitization will be the dominant note, with large screens in the instrument cluster and for the multimedia system, although Volvo will continue its line of minimalist and clean environments. The new electric flagship will be based on the “SPA 2” platform, with enough space for seven passengers.
The brand will throw the house out the window in technology, since its direct rivals are stepping very hard. In addition to a battery with capacity for autonomy close to 1000 kilometerswill have two powerful electric motors, and new generation LiDAR sensors for level 3 autonomous driving. For now, no spy photos have been seen, but the brand intends to unveil the new model in the coming months, as market launch is planned for 2023.
