The new generation of the Peugeot 408 has been photographed fully exposed. Peugeot’s compact sedan will be renewed and will debut very important innovations in terms of design and technological equipment. Now, will it be sold in Europe? We review all the keys of the “little brother” of the Peugeot 508.
Cars with sedan-type bodies are not going through their best moment in Europe. The “SUV fever” has displaced this traditional format to a second and even third place. A situation that is further aggravated if we focus exclusively on the offer of general models. However, and far from our borders, sedans are still highly demanded vehicles. That is why, brands that have put aside these models in the Old Continent, continue betting on them in, for example, China.
peugeot is a clear example of such a situation. At the moment, the only sedan marketed by a French brand in Europe is the Peugeot 508. From the aforementioned Asian country, some new and very important spy photos of the new Peugeot compact sedan have arrived. The development of the new generation of the Peugeot 408 is underway. The “little brother” of the 508 will undergo a profound renovation.
Peugeot 408, a compact sedan based on the 308
The 408 is one of the models that make up the Chinese range of Peugeot. It is manufactured and marketed through the joint venture that Stellantis has with its local partner, Dongfeng. Well, the new generation of this sedan has been photographed in broad daylight completely exposed. What novelties will the renewed 408 release?
Let’s go into detail.
It is known internally with the code T93RR and, as can be seen in the images that illustrate this article. The exterior has been developed following Peugeot’s new design language. The optical groups make use of LED technology and stand out for the characteristic fangs that draw the lights intended for daytime running. Also noteworthy is the grill and, how could it be otherwise, it sports the new brand logo.
The lateral silhouette brings out the natural essence of a model that, although it adapts to the new times, remains faithful to its origins. Chinese drivers continue to bet heavily on sedans.
Based on the second generation of the Peugeot 308
Leaving aside the exterior, if we pay attention to the photograph of the interior, we will realize one of the main keys of the new 408. And it is not based on the 308 that has recently arrived at our dealerships. It is based on the second generation of the Peugeot compact. Although a notable technological evolution is glimpsed, it conveys the sensation of being located halfway between the last two generations of the 308.
The multifunction steering wheel features an eye-catching design and the infotainment touchscreen is positioned just below the central air vents. The instrument panel can barely be seen, although it is to be expected that digitization will gain prominence.
At this point it should be noted that, unfortunately for those who continue to buy sedans on the European continent, there are no plans to bring the new generation of 408 to Europe. It will continue to be a model conceived by and for China.
