The radical and sophisticated Oso marks the beginning of a new electric stage for Ibis, one of the brands that were born during the Mountain Bike boom in the 80s of the last century.
Ibis has taken it in stride, but has finally entered the market for electric bikes with the new Bear. For her first foray into this booming sector -and tremendously competitive-, she has not wanted to be conservative or discreet.
And it is that you only have to see the new Ibis Bear to appreciate the ambition of a brand that already has several decades of experience behind it.
Ibis Oso, a radical and groundbreaking eMTB
Although the design and aesthetics of the Electric Bear Ibis They attract attention at first sight, it is in the details where the true value of this new eMTB from the Californian firm is appreciated.
Built from the ground up to deliver a new level of performance, the Oso’s frame is 100% carbon fiber and features the DW-Link platform top link suspension. Also a virtual pivot design without straps, which allows greater lightness, progressiveness and has been completely adapted to an integrated FOX air shock in a horizontal position.
The Oso offers 155mm of travel in the rear and up to 170mm in the rear. FOX 38 front fork. The electrical assistance corresponds to an engine of quality and performance more than contrasted, the Bosch Performance line CX.
Bosch, Maxxis and XT
The quiet and powerful Bosch motor provides 85Nm of torque and the brand guarantees a design life of 40,000 kilometers. The motor is paired with a 750 Wh or 625 Wh battery in the small size, although the brand has not specified autonomy.
The Large and X-Large sizes feature 444mm chainstays and matching 29-inch wheels, while the Small and Medium have a mixed 29/27.5 wheel setup and shorter 439mm chainstays.
The effective seat angle also depends on the size, from 77 degrees on the small to 79 degrees on the extra large, offering a excellent balance and climbing control in all sizes.
The Bear Ibis relies on XT 4-piston brakes, 220mm rotors and dual-cased Maxxis tyres, sitting on Ibis Blackbird Send alloy wheels. Its launch price is $10,999, about €11,300. Of course, there is no confirmed date or availability for Spain, although the distribution of the brand is carried out by Bike Comp.
