Microsoft just updated Edge for Xbox. The new version of the browser, based on Chromium, presents many improvements with respect to the previous solution. Now lets you play Google Stadia, access Discord, and more.
Users of the desktop client will find little difference in the Xbox version of Edge. Microsoft has been responsible for transferring almost all the features of the browser to its consoles Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
This means that Edge for Xbox now has vertical tabs, collections, reading view and the rendering engine developed by Google, a feature that opens the door to modern standards of the web.
“Starting today, the latest version of Microsoft Edge will be available on all Xbox consoles. This update will bring you the best of the web, with improved web standards and a fast, safe and modern browsing experience.”
Microsoft
In addition, owners of Xbox consoles with the new browser will be able, like the PC or Mac, sync all your settings, such as favorites, open tabs and history, through a Microsoft account.
Those of Redmond also celebrate that Edge for Xbox releases mouse support. This feature, without a doubt, will allow you to navigate in a much more comfortable way than with the pointer controlled by the console control.
Of course, not everything is perfect. Edge for Xbox will not have extension support or the ability to switch to developer mode. Although this makes sense, in part, thinking that it is a solution of entertainment for the living room.
Edge for Xbox opens the doors to Google Stadia
Gaming in the cloud is increasingly present in these times and Google Stadia it is a very interesting option. Now, with the new Edge browser for Xbox, Microsoft console users can immerse themselves in this experience.
The application will automatically detect the Microsoft controller and, if the Internet connection meets the speed requirements, any user with a Stadia subscription will be able to enjoy a wide variety of titles.
Discord is also coming to Microsoft consoles thanks to Edge for Xbox. However, it does so in a limited way. You can only participate in voice calls and message channels.
The Chromium-based browser arrives alongside the Sep updateTime for all Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S consoles. The update should appear automatically in the next few hours.
Microsoft notes that the system also comes with the Play Later feature that allows you to select a list of Xbox Game Pass games to watch and other minor enhancements.
