The Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice published, as every year, its list of the most violent cities in the world, where Mexico, within the first 10, adds nine, with Colima as the one that leads the ranking.

Latin America, in general, is a complex region, with various problems and, in turn, with great cultural riches that, to tell the truth, make it stand out; However, in political, economic and social matters, the history of Latin America has been one of important outrages.

Of course, within this framework, Mexico has earned an important place in the history of the region, being one of the countries with the greatest economic, political, and social problems.

According to data from a survey conducted by Ipsos among a total of 19,010 adults between the ages of 16 and 74, in a period between June 25 and July 9, 2021, The greatest concern of Mexicans was not Covid-19, but insecurity, with 57 percent.

And it is that, in Mexico, we have been living for years in a context where violence advances even more, be it in terms of organized crime, armed robberies, assaults, etc.

In this sense, information from the National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Safety (ENVIPE) 2021carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), reveals that, only in 2020, there were close to seven thousand victims of robbery on public roads or public transport for every 100,000 inhabitants.

As shown in the graph deposited in the upper part, Colima is the most violent city in Mexico and in the worldaccumulating 182 homicides per 100,000 citizens in 2022.

Zamora (Michoacán) and Ciudad Obregón (Sonora) are located in the second and third position with 177 and 138 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively,

One thing to note is that of the top ten cities with the highest homicide rates in the world, only one is located outside of Mexico. We are talking about New Orleans, the port city on the Mississippi River in the US state of Louisiana, where about 71 people were killed for every 100,000 inhabitants last year.

Undoubtedly, the numbers speak for themselves and reflect that, in terms of security, Mexico is far from being an exemplary nation, even when the authorities themselves present figures that are extremely different and contrary to what reality dictates on the streets.
