A scientist from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgodiscovered that the Jamaicaone of the flowers with which we Mexicans most identify, is more efficient than chlorine on the elimination of bacteria.
The study, already accepted by the United States Patent and Trademark Officeindicates that if there are a thousand typhoid bacteria in lettuce, the commercial disinfectant eliminates between 100 and 200; chlorine between 400 and 500 and a simple drop of Jamaica annihilates between 800 and 900.

Jamaica was combined with vinegar for greater efficiency
However, Javier Castro Rosas, the academic of the UAEH who has been conducting research with hibiscus for about 20 years, especially for its application in human and veterinary medicine, highlights that to eliminate more bacteria, hibiscus was combined with vinegar, citric acid and coconut extract, thus eliminating 99 % of bacteria.

It must be said that although this hibiscus flower is deeply rooted in the gastronomic culture of Mexico, especially for its use in fresh waters, the reality is that its origin is not national.

This flower belongs to the Malvaceae family. Its emergence is located, according to various investigations, in the countries of Asia, India Y Malaysia. It was brought to Mexico by the Spanish during colonization. The countries that currently produce it the most are China, India Y Sudanour country ranks seventh, being Warrior where more is harvested.

At least since 2020 these findings were made by Javier Castro Rosas, creating five disinfectants so far, all patented, although at the moment it is unknown when they would begin to be marketed.
