Production team
The movie Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish It is directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift. They both did the same jobs. The Croods 2: A New Age, from Dreamworks Animation, a company that is also responsible for this film. The executive producer is Chris Meledandri (My favorite villain).
CINEMA PREMIERE chatted with director Joel Crawford and producer Mark Swift. In an interview, she talked about the decisions that were made to design the new adventures of the titular kitty.
One of the things that most attracts attention in the advances is the montage with all the times in which the protagonist loses his life. On the process to build these bizarre situations that adapt to the bombastic personality of the star, Crawford comments the following:
“There was a lot of searching to find out how he did it, how he loses these lives. And there was a long list of ideas that the story artists came up with, that the writers came up with, and that a lot of people liked. With so many options, the only thing missing was our decision. You mentioned it very specifically: ‘What is this personality that he has?’ Because when we meet Puss in Boots at the beginning of this movie, he’s already become something of a legend. He’s like a rock star, and we think that every life should be related to his personality, to this daring. His ego caused him to lose their lives in a very funny way. [Su personalidad] helped us find the perfect way for them to lose their lives.”
In the character’s first solo installment, Guillermo del Toro served as executive producer and also provided the voice of El Comandante, a soldier who fights to catch the outlaw at all costs. We asked Swift if the Mexican creative would be involved in the next chapter. Although she confessed that the person responsible for Pacific Titans He had no contribution on this occasion, he remembered it fondly and with a smile:
“We were all fans of his. I used to come to the studio a lot […] He would come and entertain everyone. She’s not kidding. He came and everyone followed him because he has a lot of energy. Unfortunately, he’s a busy guy. We couldn’t count on his time this time, but I hope there will be a Puss in Boots 3. maybe we can take advantage [a Guillermo del Toro]Because he’s amazing.”
For his part, Crawford recalled this:
“He came once because he was a consultant on one of the Kung Fu Panda movies. I was pitching as a story artist. I finished my pitch for a scene and he gave me a hug. I was like, ‘I don’t even know him and he hugged me. [ríe]. It’s so adorable. We are big fans, so I hope we can collaborate.”
Distribution
The English voices in the film are those of Antonio Banderas, who returns to play Gato, and Salma Hayek, who also returns to play Kitty Patitas Suaves.
Likewise, the ensemble is completed by Harvey Guillén as Perro, Florence Pugh as Risitos de Oro, John Mulaney as “Big” Jack Horner and Wagner Moura as the Big Bad Wolf, as well as Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, Anthony Mendez and Da’ Came Joy Randolph.
We will have to wait to find out if Hayek and Banderas also do the dubbing into Spanish, as happened in the first film.
On how Antonio Banderas was convinced to return to this world after 11 years of the first tape, Mark Swift said this:
“He is Puss in Boots. He embodies the character and has made it his own for [casi] 20 years old, so I think it’s very important to him. We came up with the story we wanted to tell and we met with him and pitched the film to him. It was a great meeting. When we met him, we immediately got more information about the character for this film.”
Crawford added:
“When we presented the story to Antonio, […] he was really excited because this allowed us to see another side of Puss in Boots that we still don’t see. Usually, he is an exciting action character, a swordsman who is not afraid of anything, but now that he only has one life left, we see what happens when he is afraid. There is a lot of comedy because we see him more scared than other times. It’s almost like Jackie Chan action, but there’s also a lot of depth for the audience to discover. It’s a whole new look.”
