WHAT DOES THE END OF SEASON 1 OF “THE LAST OF US” MEAN?

Throughout the first season, we’ve witnessed the countless occasions where Joel has done everything possible to save Ellie. Even seeing him in his most bloodthirsty side, as a murderer.

Despite his rude appearance, he is a man who lost everything when he couldn’t save his daughter. Therefore, realizing that Ellie filled the void left SarahHe is not willing to see her die. Much less go through that great pain again.

As pointed out Neil Druckman at a press conference that covered screen rantits characters are complex and, in the case of joelthis has many nuances: “Most of the time the public has been with Joel and what he’s trying to do, which is protect Ellie, which is a very noble cause. Then we show how sad it is, the darkness of which it is capable.

Probably the main debate about the outcome of the season revolves around the true decision that Ellie would have made. The intentions of joel They are clear and, possibly, a large part of the viewers empathize with him. However, our protagonist could never choose.

This conflict was also experienced by the showrunner himself craig mazin: “We give too much weight to unconditional love as if it were the highest expression of love. Unconditional literally means no conditions at all, including those where you do something that isn’t in the best interest of the person you love, at least within some kind of moral or ethical code. I’m not suggesting that you have a strong opinion about what happens at the end. I do not have it. It confuses me morally, I think it is a difficult decision and I go back and forth with it. I think it will happen to a lot of people”he claimed.
