The construction works of the mayan train They continue and at the same time a hotel area is developed that will be located in the surroundings of this government project.
The construction and administration of these hotel complexes is in charge of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena)who is also in charge of the works of the Mayan Train.
The hotels will be located along the more than 1,500 kilometers of the emblematic work of the current six-year term. This is intended to provide accommodation to users who travel to the south-east Mexico by train.
The hotels of the Mayan Train
The six hotels of the Mayan Train They will be located at different points along the route:
- In Edzná and Calakmul, Campeche. Sections 1 and 2 of the Train will run in this region.
- New Uxmal and Chichen Itza, Yucatan. Here will run section 3.
- Tulum, Quintana Roo. Corresponds to sections 5 to 7.
- Palenche, in Chiapas. This region also corresponds to section 1.
These hotel complexes will be attached to the GOlmeca, Maya and Mexico Airport, Railway and Auxiliary Services Groupwhich is also in charge of operating the new Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
It is important to note that the construction of these buildings will be near the archaeological sites of the region. As is the case of the hotel Edzna, in Campechewhich will be located one kilometer from the archaeological zone of the same name.
Investments
For the construction of this complex, an investment of more than 1,400 million pesos was projected, according to Sedena. The complex will have an extension of 12.5 hectares.
On the other hand, the hotel in Palenque, Chiapas, which will be located 1.6 kilometers from the archaeological zone that bears the same name, projected an investment of 960 million pesos.

However, the works of this project are strongly criticized by environmental groups and native communities in the region.
The problem is the displacement of these communities, the deforestation of the jungle, the contamination of aquifers, as well as the unfair payment for the sale of their land.
However, Javier May, director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), assured that the construction work is carried out with “environmental responsibility.”
