The Japanese firm has presented during the Monterey events the new and improved Honda NSX Type S, the latest version that will be marketed as the second generation of the sports car and which becomes the most powerful, fast and maneuverable version to date of the saga NSX.
In addition to announcing the return of the Integra brand to the Acura catalog, which will take place during the next year, Honda has saved for the events of Monterey Car Week a very special presentation, the new Honda NSX Type S. A strongly renewed version of the hybrid sports car that has become the most powerful and performance version of the Japanese sports car to date.
The new Honda NSX Type S is a limited edition that comes to pay tribute to the end of production of the Japanese hybrid sports car, which is currently only available in a few markets and the most important of them is precisely the United States. Therefore, of the only 350 units that will be manufactured in this edition no less than 300 are destined for that market, where the model is marketed under the Acura emblems. This limited edition will be manufactured in the same US plant where this new generation of the NSX has been produced so far, at the Marysville, Ohio facility.
Type S
The new Honda NSX Type S is not simply a modified version or equipped with a new aesthetic configuration, as It has received numerous modifications in various sections to become the most powerful, fast and maneuverable version of the model’s history.
Even on an aesthetic level it has a differentiating design, so much so that it seems to belong to a facelift, rather than the features of a powered version. The front changes considerably thanks to a more aggressive bumper with more angular lines which includes new grill. According to Honda, these changes are not simply aesthetic, as they help to improve the cooling of the model and increase its downforce.
On a mechanical level we find a more powerful configuration of the 3.5-liter V6, which in combination with the 3 electric motors and thanks to the turbochargers taken directly from the NSX GT3 racing now delivers 600 hp (608 hp) and 667 Nm of peak torque, which means 27 hp and 22 Nm more than the base model. In addition to the new power figure, the responses of the 9-speed automatic transmission and electric motors have been recalibrated to fine-tune the Torque Vectoring effect they are capable of generating.
For the most purist and sporty customers an optional Lightweight Package is available including Brembo carbo-ceramic brakes and numerous elements made of carbon fiber seen on the outside. In parallel, a carbon-only package for the interior is also available, which gains a somewhat more racing look with new Alcantara linings.
In terms of performance, despite having confirmed that this new limited edition is faster, Honda has not yet wanted to reveal its figures, limiting itself to saying that it is 2 seconds faster than the 2019 NSX at the Suzuka circuit.
