Finally! After a long wait, crunchyroll announced that The Quintessential Quintuplets: The Movie (Eiga Go-Tōbun no Hanayome) will have a commercial premiere in theaters in Latin America.
In a press release, the company revealed that the film will be shown subtitled and dubbed into Latin American Spanish in theaters across Mexico as of February 23, 2023. This title will also reach other Latin American countries on dates to be announced; for now, they are confirmed Chile and Peru.
“The anime has captured the hearts of fans around the world. We are thrilled to bring the story’s conclusion to audiences who are eagerly awaiting to find out which of the five sisters captures Futaro’s heart,” said Mitchel Berger, SVP of Global Commerce at Crunchyroll. “The enormous popularity of The Quintessential Quintuplets presents an exciting opportunity for Crunchyroll to bring a strong romantic comedy to fans and introduce new fans to the anime series.”

the manga The Quintessential Quintuplets was serialized in the magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine between August 2017 and February 2020; the Kodansha publishing house compiled the story in a total of 14 volumes. Negi Haruba’s work became a commercial success in Japan, being the fifth best-selling manga series in 2019 and the seventh best-selling manga series in 2020. The print also received the award for Best shōnen at the 43rd Kodansha Manga Awards in 2019.
The first season of its anime adaptation, by Tezuka Productions (Adachi and Shimamura), aired winter 2019; meanwhile, the second season developed by Bibury Animation Studio (Azur Lane) premiered in winter 2021. The 135-minute feature film is a direct sequel to the 24-episode series and adapts the ending of the story.
Crunchyroll provides the following synopsis for the film:
“When five beautiful girls who hate studying hire Futaro as a part-time tutor, he guides not only their education but also their hearts. The time they have shared brought them closer, with feelings growing within the girls and Futaro. As they finish their third year of high school and their last school festival approaches, they set their sights on what’s next. Is there a future between one of them and Futaro?”
The Quintessential Quintuplets: The Movie opened on May 20 in theaters in Japan and has grossed $17.6 million worldwide. The production counted on the return of the staff main who worked on the second season of the anime: director Masato Jinbo, screenwriter Keiichirō Ōchi, character designer Masato Katsumata, as well as composers Hanae Nakamura and Miki Sakurai. Production was done once again at Bibury Animation Studio.
