The FIA has been the subject of multiple criticisms in recent days for different reasons. However, one of the most critical drivers on the grid has lined up on his side by ensuring that he has full confidence in the federative body.
It is not usual for Fernando Alonso to pronounce himself in favor of the FIA, an organization with which he has been very critical in the past and who has always given headaches. However, the two-time Formula 1 world champion seems to have changed the discourse a bit.
The truth is that the FIA has been receiving constant criticism for almost two years and the changes introduced by the new president, Mohammed ben Sulayemhave not had the expected effect on the effectiveness of the federation and its commissioners to manage the most important championship in motorsport.
“I guess we all expect the FIA to keep as good an eye on all these things as we want to race in a fair environment.”
To make matters worse, in recent days there have been two events that have fueled criticism. The first, the alleged violation of financial regulations by Red Bull and Aston Martin. The second, the late management of the infractions committed by Sergio Pérez in Singapore.
A close friend of Fernando Alonso such as Flavio Briatore has harshly criticized the FIA for this latest event, but the Alpine driver has distanced himself from the critical current against it. “Very high, being honest,” said the man from Oviedo when asked about his confidence in the FIA. “As I said a few times, I have a lot of confidence in Mohammed (ben Sulayem), the president and his team”he stressed in a statement collected by Crash.net.

The FIA wants to improve
One of Fernando Alonso’s main arguments for supporting Mohammed ben Sulayem’s FIA is that his team is very willing to improve things, something that he did not detect in the past.
“Still, there are some things in the race weekend, some consistency and other issues that we deal with race after race that we are improving. But they are willing to learn and improve too, that’s very positive compared to the past.”Alonso points out.
And, with regard to financial regulations, Fernando Alonso points out that “off the track, I completely trust what they are doing and what the outcome will be next week with the cost cap and how the sport moves into the future. I have no doubts about anything.”
Alonso admits that the control of the budget limit is a very complex issue and he hopes that the FIA will be able to keep an eye on it correctly, while asking the teams for responsibility.
“I don’t know, it’s a difficult issue from the driver’s point of view. It’s not relevant here and we trust our teams to actually control everything they do. I guess we all expect the FIA to keep as good an eye on all these things as possible.because we want to compete in a fair environment and stuff”, concludes Fernando Alonso.
