The annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the conference that brings together the world’s largest players in the mobile phone industry to present their latest innovations and technological advances.

From smartphone manufacturers to app developers attend, and every year there is much to talk about in the industry.

The MWC is also a great opportunity for tech companies to connect with each other to form new partnerships and explore emerging technologies.

For example, MWC was the first place to announce the world’s first 5G network and the launch of a new type of virtual reality headset.

In addition to the big announcements, the event is also important for presentations by industry experts and big names in the smartphone industry. These conferences attract massive audiences and provide the event with a good volume of consumers.

What will the next phones be like?

One of the attractive points of the 2023 edition of the MWC in Barcelona was the speech this week by Marty Cooper, who is considered by most to be “the father of the cell phone”.

According to Cooper, the next phones will be so small that they will be embedded in the skin and will not need to be charged.

He also said that he never imagined phones would become the laptops they are today.

Cooper was at the center of the scene at MWC because he was awarded with a lifetime achievement award commemorating 50 years since he made the first phone call on Sixth Avenue.

in dialogue with CNBCCooper said that “the next generation will have phones embedded under the skin of the ears” and that “the body will be the perfect charger”, so there will be no need for separate chargers.

“By eating, the body generates energy,” he explained. “By eating food, bodies create energy. Very little of that power will be needed to make the headphones work,” he noted.

He also spoke of bodies with “microchips and sensors”, in line with the developments carried out by one of Elon Musk’s many companies, Neuralink.

Criticizing today’s phones, he described them as “intricate flat black slabs” with screens that don’t conform to the curvature of the human face.

Cooper made the first phone call using a Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, referred to in the popular movie “Wall Street”. Who answered you on the other end of the line? His main competitor at AT&T, Joel S. Engel.

“Half a century ago it was a very primitive time,” Cooper said. “There was no internet, there were no large-scale integrated circuits or digital cameras.”
