Cinepolisthrough its alternative content window Más que Cine (+QUE CINE), will be in charge of bringing the deer king (Shika no Ō: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi) to the cinema screens of Latin America. The film co-directed by Masashi Ando Y Masayuki Miyaji will premiere on October 13, 2022 subtitled and dubbed into Latin Spanish.
the deer king is a film adaptation of the award-winning fantasy literary saga written by Nahoko Uehash. It is the first feature film by Masashi Ando, who is best known for his work as a character designer and animation director on iconic films such as princess mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Tokyo Godfathers (2003), Paprika (2006) or your name. (2016). For his part, Masayuki Miyaji is remembered for directing the series Xam’d: Lost Memories and the tape Fuse: Memoirs of a Huntress (2012).

The feature film of GI production (Ghost in the Shell) featured a script by Taku Kishimoto (Fruit Basket) and music by Harumi Fuuki (Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna). Co-director Masashi Ando also served as character designer and chief animation director. Singer-songwriter milet performed the theme song titled “One Reason”. Meanwhile, the Japanese cast was led by Anne (Sae), Hisui Kimura (Yuna), Ryōma Takeuchi (Hossal) and Shinichi Tsutsumi (Van).
Cinépolis provides the following synopsis of the deer king:
“The story takes place in a kingdom dominated by a powerful Empire. As a mysterious plague spreads across the land, two survivors, a man and a girl, meet their cruel fates in an ongoing odyssey and strengthen their surrogate father-daughter bond. Meanwhile, a gifted doctor desperately fights to save lives from the unrelenting plague, and a mysterious woman truly fights for the Empire to save her homeland. Eventually, fate causes her paths to cross…”
The 114-minute film had its world premiere at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2021, where it won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. The film made its commercial debut on February 4 this year in theaters in Japan.
