The Argentine gaming industry continues to grow and expand and today I have to talk about the fighting game The Black Heart, a title created by Andres Borghi and published by Saibot Studios (Doorways, Hellbound).
This 2021 was a year with several Latin American projects and after spending some time in early access, the final version of The Black heart, a classic fighting game that emulates the former Street fighter and Mortal Kombat.
A dark world for each protagonist
Andrés Borghi, director and scriptwriter of shorts such as Alexia and Working Day; I build the design and the past of each of its characters in the same way that it was done in classic games with texts and brushstrokes when we selected these beings from another world. And also at the end when we finish your campaign. Each one has a particular identity and its influence from cinema and anime is noticeable. From demon dancers, a monstrous spider woman and a ghost similar to Sadako from The Call; among others.
There is not much more to tell and let’s face it not even the big AAA fighting productions spend a lot on giving us a lot of argument, the players come for the pineapples and kicks.
Classic combat with vibrant excitement.
As I have been saying in the note, The Black Heart It is a classic title and does not pretend to be anything else. It has 3 modes: story, versus and survival (also Practice to test characters). The story mode is to know each of the characters and how they are related. We will have to finish this mode and overcome certain requirements to be able to unlock the secret character named Janos. There are a total of 6 playable characters. Each one has their own fighting style, some being faster and others slower but stronger. They have attacks from afar but the base of the game is centered on only four buttons (two pineapple and two kick). Thanks to a series of combinations of these we can perform special abilities.
Versus modes are for quick matches against the CPU or another player. While Survival confronts all the enemies with only one life bar.
From the entrails of MUGEN
I remember that the first time I found out that it was MUGEN, I came across a strange Dragon Ball video game. Then the world of this free graphics engine expanded to unimaginable places but it is beautiful to see how projects like The Black Heart They took advantage of this and were able to come to life.
Now the game comes with improvements since its original release, with new color palettes for the characters, more maps and a remastered soundtrack by David Levill (who had already worked on Hellbound).
conclusion
The Black Heart is a beautiful love letter to the horror genre in various media, be it cinema, novels or TV; but also to the fast and classic fights of the fighting games of the late 80s and early 90s. Fast but not so crazy as not to have control over the character.
